Atomic Masters Performance Program (for experienced racers)

Fall Season is September to December.  Athletes increase their fitness base with focus on skill development, distance training and blending within crews.  Fall racing includes 5k head races such as Secret City Head Race, Music City Head Race and Head of the Hooch.

Spring Season is January through May.  Early weeks include land training and continued development of the fitness base.  In March, training moves to the water and focuses on technical refinement and transfer of fitness to moving boats on the water. The goal is to develop in all areas to reach desired levels when competing in late May.

Summer Season includes training segments for competition in late June or July, and open row singles sessions for the remainder of the summer. The open row segment is a great training transition from spring sprint racing to fall distance racing.

Selective participation in the  Performance Masters program is determined by coaches.

Atomic Masters Development Program for new and non-racing rowers

In this program, coaches build on concepts introduced through Private Lessons lessons and Learn-To-Row to develop rowing mechanics, build fitness, and prepare rowers for future opportunities with Atomic Rowing. Participation in Learn to Row or Private Lessons is encouraged, but not required to begin the Adult Development program.

Fall Development runs September-December.  Practices are Tuesday/Thursday 6:30-8:30pm.

Spring Development runs mid January to late May.  Below is a breakdown of focus by months:

  •  January/February: Learn rowing basics on land with the use of the Concept 2 Rowing Ergometer. Training sessions focus on technique, using drills and steady state rowing. General strength, basic endurance and team building will lead to increased ability to transfer concepts and practices to moving boats on the water in subsequent sessions.
  • March/April: Skill is expanded by taking it to the water! This portion offers the opportunity to transfer land rowing concepts and practices to moving boats on the water!
  • May: Newer rowers experience the accumulation of skill through time and repetition.  This portion provides the opportunity to assess readiness to compete for those who are interested.
  • June-August: Masters take part in our summer program of open rows which means learning to row the single in a relaxed, enjoyable environment.
