WHY I COACH:
“I coach because I have a deep desire to share with others the knowledge I’ve gained through years in the sport of rowing. Drawing from my experience as a high-performance athlete and background in exercise science, I aim to help rowers of all levels achieve their personal performance, health, and fitness goals through rowing. Ultimately, I enjoy helping rowers discover their potential and develop a lasting connection with the sport.”
Ethan began rowing in the fall of 2021 as a freshman walk-on for the High Point University club team in North Carolina. In high school, Ethan was a competitive baseball pitcher with aspirations of playing in college. When an injury interfered with his plans, he shifted his focus to rowing and quickly became infatuated with the sport. After just one year in the sport, he acquired a single scull and began training and racing independently. As a sophomore at HPU, Ethan placed third in the men’s single at the ACRA National Championship. He went on to win the event in 2024 and 2025. After graduation, Ethan used his remaining year of eligibility to row for the Jacksonville University Men’s team on a full-tuition scholarship. During his year in Jacksonville, he began coaching at Jacksonville Rowing Club, a small masters team on the Arlington River.
MY FAVORITE ROWING MEMORY:
“My favorite rowing memory is winning the ACRA National Championship for the first time in 2024. I had an incredible year leading up to that race, and it was an amazing experience to see all the work I had put in pay off at the end of the season. Coming off the summer of 2023 rowing with the Craftsbury Green Racing Project in Vermont, I was dealing with significant back pain that kept me on the bike for nearly six months. I did not return to rowing until January, but the progress I made in those few months was nothing short of remarkable, making that championship win especially meaningful.“
