The Oak Ridge Rowing Association is proud to host the University of Tennessee as they go head-to-head with Stanford for an early-season scrimmage on Melton Hill Lake, bringing together two nationally competitive programs for a valuable test of speed and depth.
Raced under steady conditions, the scrimmage will feature multiple pieces across varsity and second varsity lineups, giving both teams an opportunity to evaluate combinations and build race rhythm ahead of the championship season.
In last year’s scrimmage, Tennessee showed strong progression throughout the morning, with competitive margins and improved cohesion from piece to piece. Stanford, a perennial national contender, demonstrated its trademark speed and technical consistency, pushing the pace across all lineups and providing a high-level benchmark for the Volunteers.
Beyond results, the scrimmage serves its primary purpose: sharpening execution, testing lineups, and gaining early race experience. Both programs benefit from the side-by-side racing environment, using the session to identify areas for refinement as the spring season approaches.
The event also highlights Melton Hill Lake’s reputation as one of the most reliable racecourses in the country, once again providing fair conditions for high-quality competition.
Tennessee will carry the momentum from this scrimmage into its upcoming spring racing schedule, while Stanford continues its preparation for the West Coast and national regatta circuit.
