What is a Regatta?

A regatta is a series of boat races. Regattas in Oak Ridge can bring hundreds of athletes to compete at our incredible venue. In the Spring, ORRA teams compete in Sprint Races and in the Fall, our athletes compete in Head Races.

Sprint Races: Typically occur in the spring to early part of summer and are either 1,000 meters or 2,000 meters long. Boats race from start to finish and either move on to the next stage or, if the race is a final, they place and medal (win bronze, silver or a gold medal).

Head Races: Typically occur in the fall and are 2 to 3 miles long! The boats start using “staggered” starts, and the fastest boats in each category will medal.
